Tedeschi – SIXTY YEARS OF CAPITEL MONTE OLMI AT VINITALY

av Livets Goda

Traditionally present at the International Wine Exhibition in Verona, Tedeschi continues to be a point of reference in Valpolicella for buyers and specialized workers from across the globe, as well as for having the first Amarone cru born in 1964.

Verona, April 4th 2024 – The centerpiece of the Tedeschi stand at Vinitaly will be dedicated to the Amarone della Valpolicella Capitel Monte Olmi to celebrate the 60th anniversary of a wine that remains recognizable for its timeless elegance and style and that propelled the territory into the modern age of valuing cru wines at a time when such a concept was not even being considered in Italy.

From the first experience of this wine, born in 1964 from a moment of intuition developed by Lorenzo Tedeschi as he observed his vineyards, and confirmed over the years thanks to zoning and studies on the aromatic model of native grapes carried out by his children Antonietta, Sabrina, and Riccardo, the winery has been able to bring to fruition many other great wines. These wines include not only Amarone but also Valpolicella, all of which are characterized by a tie to a marked and recognizable territory and upon which Tedeschi have stamped their elegant and unmistakable signature of intensity, aroma, freshness, and complexity found in each of its labels.

The characteristics expressed in Tedeschi wines are recognizable to specialized workers and international buyers as a point of reference for quality as well as for the identity of the wines of the Valpolicella. The confirmation for such a distinction comes from the many awards conferred and the high scores received every year from the leading international and national guides as well as specialized magazines together with positive appraisals from the most refined consumers. Vinitaly represents a unique opportunity for all manner of professionals with ties to the wine world to have a close encounter with the Tedeschi wine production at Pavilion 4 stand C3.

Tedeschi wines are part of the history of Valpolicella. Ancient deeds serve to witness the presence of the family starting in 1630 and their winemaking activity starting in 1824. Tedeschi winemaking is distinguished by a profound respect for both the earth and the beauty of the surroundings that can be experienced from the extraordinary vineyard La Fabriseria, situated on terraces in the Valpolicella Classica with a view on Lake Garda, or from the dry-stone walls of the Monte Olmi vineyard from where the centuries long tradition is kept alive. We also keep a careful focus on the environment, and our Maternigo Estate has become an oasis of biodiversity.

Our family’s long history of winemaking can be uncovered by visiting our new Tedeschi wine archives that opened this year and make possible the tasting of all labels produced from old vintages up to the current day. The room, set up in a space below the winery in Pedemonte, holds 6800 bottles from a total of 27000 total old vintage bottles. This archive represents another contribution by Tedeschi towards the valorization of the Valpolicella and a way to increase the knowledge of its wines as they evolve and mature over time.
